FretKnot is a utility designed primarily for guitarists, although its'
features make it fully usable for bassists, mandolin players and in fact
any instrument with 6 strings or less.
It was programmed using AMOS Pro on an Amiga1200 with around 20
meg of RAM, although it should only need a minimum of 512K (I
think!) I've had it just about ready for weeks now - the AMOS Pro
Compiler proved to be quite an elusive little bugger! After weeks of
frustrating and fruitless searching, I eventually tracked it down (BIG,
HUGE, thanks to PLASTIC! ) and got it compiled. The original program
was only around 140K - this soon expanded to about 300K on
compilation (boo hoo!). For some reason, when I squashed it using the
compiler, running it resulted in an 'out of memory' requester, but only
if I included the libraries with the program (which I want to do as
there's nowt worse than seeing a program you like the sound of only to
be told you've not got the appropraite libs!). I've got in excess of 20
meg, so I can't understand this one bit, probably due to the fact that I
know nowt, having only just borrowed the computer off a mate.
(Answers on a postcard please!)
FretKnot runs from the Workbench, by clicking its' icon.
A full guide is accessible from within the program by clicking on 'help' -
there are also a few short tutorials on chords, scales and the like. Also
included are various musical examples, arpeggios, chord sets and
practice files.
FretKnot, it's code and design are copyright J.Phillips 2000. It is 100%
freeware, although regular users are encouraged to send me owt they
like, be it money or anything else generally considered pleasant. All
correspondance is welcomed - you may like to include a postcard of
your home town, which will be forever treasured. (Ahhhhhhh!)
Details of how to get in touch are also included within the program.
FretKnot may be copied and passed around freely and by anyone,
providing -
1) All code is left 100% intact and not tampered with
2) All textfiles, including tutorials are included
3) All example chord and practice files are included
4) Nothing is charged for the program other than the usual minimal
costs for discs and postage, etc.
5) You tell me, if you are P.D. or anything to do with the Net. (Send
me a catalogue!)
All of the above is written in stone, expertly carved with a very, very
sharp diamond indeed.
In respect of all material which forms my reader contribution to Future

As well as the obligitory -
You use FretKnot at your own risk and I am in no way responsible for
any destruction of data or breakdown or system arising from its' use.
You shouldn't have any bother, though - its' certainly caused me no
hassles at all, although let me know if owt goes wrong!
